About Conference

Department of Environmental Science and Department of Geoinformatics, University of Kashmir, are jointly organizing a 3-Day National Conference on the theme “Environment, Climate and Sustanability: Science, Policy and Pathways” from 15–17th September 2026. The conference will bring together researchers, academicians, policymakers, industry experts, NGOs and civil society to share and exchange the knowledge, expertise and research insights on the broader domains of Environment, Climate and Sustainability. The conference is targeted to focus on exploring the synthesis of shared deliberations and knowledge into actionable governance frameworks, evidence based pathways and policy formulation thereby reinforcing Science- Policy- Society Interface in sync with National and regional priorities and Sustainable Development Goals. The event also seeks to promote collaboration and expand professional networking.

Selected papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings in the Journal of Himalayan Ecology and Sustainable Development.

University

Established originally in 1948, University of Kashmir is the oldest and prestigious institution with NAAAC A++ Grade and securing 34th rank in NIRF-2025. The University has intellectually stimulating environment with start of art facilities, diverse academic offerings and strong and significant research footprint striving to become World Class University to crate and disseminate knowledge for human development and welfare and facilitate academic freedom, diversity and harmony. The main campus, spread over about 100 hectares, is set in a picturesque landscape bordered by Dal Lake and surrounded by hillocks, plains, and water bodies.

The University campus, near the revered Hazratbal Shrine and overlooking Dal Lake, is about 10 km from the Tourist Reception Center (city centre), 16 km from Nowgam Railway Station, and 25 km from Srinagar Airport. It lies 300 km from Jammu, with road travel (taxi/bus) taking around 5–6 hours.

Host Departments

Environmental Science: The Department of Environmental Science is a key interdisciplinary Centre for teaching, research, consultancy, and outreach, offering PG and PhD programs that shape future environmental thinkers, decision-makers, and problem-solvers. Aligned with NEP-2020, National Missions, and SDGs, its curriculum covers core Environmental Science. Research being carried out is socially relevant, locally responsive, and nationally significant, influencing state and national policy. The Department’s impactful research footprint is evident through grants and publications, alongside a strong record in consultancy and outreach activities.

Geoinformatics: The Department of Geoinformatics at the University of Kashmir is a leading centre for geospatial education and research in the Himalayan region. It integrates Remote Sensing, GIS, GNSS, and geospatial modelling to address environmental and disaster-related challenges. The Department offers NEP 2020-aligned M.Sc. and interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs with strong practical training. Research focuses on climate change, hazards, and sustainable development, supported by advanced labs and collaborations, while contributing to national geospatial initiatives.
